When MTV debuted in August of 1981 with music videos that promoted recorded music visually to fans globally, it spelled the decline of the relevance of advertising rock music on billboards. Still there was a short period between the heyday of Classic Rock and the MTV era when fresh talents like Elvis Costello appeared and left their mark in paint on giant billboards posted along the Sunset Strip.
